First confirmed records of the bush dog (Carnivora Canidae) for Costa Rica

摘要: The bush dog, Speothos venaticus , is one of the rarest and less known carnivore species, distributed from Panama to Argentina, with most information for species derived anecdotal records. To date, there are no previously confirmed evidences its occurrence in Costa Rica. Here we present first records dog country a new elevational record species. During extensive camera-trap surveys Las Tablas Protected Zone, Talamanca Mountains Rica, detected dogs primary montane forest at 1,500 m. low frequency among our survey, absence previous records, despite over 10 years area, reinforce idea cryptic behavior natural rareness. species’ distribution may be underestimated.
