摘要: To determine the evolutionary mechanisms generating serotypic diversity in Salmonella strains, we sequenced central, antigen-determining part of phase 1 flagellin gene (fliC) strains several serovars for which estimates chromosomal genomic relatedness had been obtained by multilocus enzyme electrophoresis. The nucleotide sequence this region was identical chromosomally divergent heidelberg (phase antigen r) but differed 19% from corresponding and similarly invariant closely related serovar typhimurium i). Mutational drift present common ancestor is unlikely to have generated difference between flagellins these two serovars, attribute instead a recombination event. This interpretation supported evidence that very diverse backgrounds similar antigens may sequences highly polymorphic region. We suggest lateral transfer genes major mechanism new serovars. Images
