Nurses' assessment of patients' spirituality: continuing education implications.

摘要: This article reports the results of a study to determine extent which nurses assessed patients' spiritual needs, indicators spirituality used in assessments, data collection methods used, and nurses' demographic information related assessment collection. Boutell's Inventory for Identifying Nurses' Assessment Patients' Spiritual Needs was developed. Test-retest indicated an acceptable level reliability. The sent random sample 817 eligible practice nursing Oklahoma, yielding 238 (29%) usable questionnaires. Criteria inclusion were that needed be employed giving direct care patients 18 years age or older. Findings indicate majority their needs from moderate considerable extent. They most frequently fears, sources strength, feelings hope. Least integration, love God, meaning suffering, transcendence. Moreover, ages 50 59 psychiatric more likely than other assess realm. Availability time patient acuity major factors influenced assessment. Data obtained through observation discussions with rather secondary sources, such as clergy records. Also, basic educational preparation not found influence Suggestions continuing education programs are made.
