Probiotic and cranberry supplementation for preventing recurrent uncomplicated urinary tract infections in premenopausal women: a controlled pilot study

摘要: Objectives: To assess efficacy and safety of Bio-Kult Pro-Cyan (BKPro-Cyan), a product containing two strains Lactobacilli plus cranberry extract, for preventing recurrent UTIs in pre-menopausal adult women.Methods: This was randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study. Subjects received BKPro-Cyan or placebo twice-daily 26 weeks. The primary endpoint the proportion subjects with UTI at end study.Results: 115 were screened; 90 enrolled; 81 completed After weeks, significantly lower number women experienced compared to (9.1 vs 33.3%; P = 0.0053). produced statistically significant improvements multiple secondary endpoints, including: greater who no (90 67%; < 0.05); longer time first (174 days; 0.001); shorter duration active (5 12 0.009); Fewer requiring antibiotics (3 11; median antibiotic treatment (4 7 0.09).Conclusions: safe effective women. These findings support need further well-designed trials clarify benefits that may be achieved.
