摘要: To explore roles and responsibilities in newborn care the intra- postpartum period Nigeria, Tanzania Ethiopia. Qualitative data were collected using in-depth interviews with mothers, grandmothers, fathers, health workers birth attendants analysed through content framework analyses. We found that main decision-makers takers intrapartum period. Birth varied across sites included female relatives (Ethiopia Nigeria), traditional (Tanzania spiritual (Nigeria) Nigeria). In early period, when mother is deemed to be resting, family members assumed this role. The mothers themselves only took full responsibility for after a few days or weeks. was protracted first-time who perceived as needing training on caring baby. Clear gender described, being considered woman's domain. Fathers had little physical contact newborn, but played an important role financing care, ultimate decision-maker family. Interventions should move beyond focus mother-child dyad, include other carers perform decide practices. Given power dynamic, interventions involve men have potential result behaviour change.
