摘要: Abstract Abstract. The behavioural effects of socio-sexual visual stimulation without interaction were analysed experimentally. Observations made hormone-dependent courtship behaviour involving choices between stimuli. Sexually active male Barbary doves, Streptopelia risoria , distinguished and female stimulus doves at a distance. Nest-soliciting was preferentially displayed to the in choice situation stimuli which experimental males could see female, but not be seen. No difference detected when uninseminated recently inseminated females. chose display newly established pairs rather than solitary females or pair castrated showed no behaviour. interactions appeared have high value for male. significant preference shown there courting nesting pairs. Oestrogen formation brain positively correlated with total perch calling It is concluded that (1) this apparently monomorphic species can use cues do involve tactile distinguishing sexually from (2) males, (3) oestrogen situation.
