摘要: During the 1970s, environmental impact statements (EISs) became focal point of significant federal decisions regarding natural resources. The legal requirements assessment assume a technically sophisticated EIS that conforms to rational-comprehensive model decision making. authors this study examine accuracy and descriptive characteristics forecasts in sample 29 nationally representative projects. Using data on actual post-project impacts, they evaluate over 200 predictions, finding although most predictions impacts fall short model's ideal, outcomes assessments turn out be reasonably prescient - is, few are inconsistent with almost no wholly unanticipated by writers. book concludes suggested ways redefining process so as diminish false expectations enhance practical strengths National Environmental Policy Act.
