摘要: Here, I shall present a brief review of ca. 35 years our studies on changes in the coral species diversity and community structure at Eilat, Red Sea, several scales space time. In following, shall: (1) summarize geographical setting geological, physical biological characteristics Gulf Eilat/Aqaba, then point out uniqueness reefs which are situated most northerly boundary reef distribution, yet exhibit extraordinarily high within-habitat diversity; (2) that took place flats northern Aqaba/Eilat (during 1969–1980), due to natural disturbances (extreme midday low tides) man-made perturbations (chronic oil spills); (3) discuss possible mechanisms generate maintain typifying pristine Eilat/Aqaba; (4) opposite caused dramatic decrease abundance living cover Eilat Coral Nature Reserve (ECNR) during 1986–2000.I will also two major anthropogenic disturbances: first, eutrophication by Eilat’s sewage discharge sea until 1995; second, further originating from intensive net pen mariculture off coast exponentially expanded activity 1994–1995 times. The grave implications for this chronic be presented. Finally, (5) conclude with warning that, present, severely damaged subsist critical state. If is not halted immediately, final collapse total destruction unique certain. their fragile state, only chance restoration extreme instant protection measures against all disturbances.
