摘要: Abstract: Over the past several years, there has been an increasein interest in translating human factors knowledge and methods, primarily used complex, event-driven, sociotechnical settingssuch as aviation, to health care. In this article, we overview theprimary concepts cognitive systems engineering that may aid informulating interventions a variety of diverse medical settingsto reduce likelihood patient harm. To improve resilience inmedication delivery, propose immediately incorporating 3 keylevers: (1) scenario-based design evaluation interventions,(2) advanced information visualization techniques dataoverload electronic record, (3) explicitconsideration documentation asynchronous, interdisciplin-ary teamwork support during software requirements analysis, including workload shifting analysis. For long-term progress, werecommend investing research better understand technicalwork care, specifically task workdomains trade-offs strategies workers use meetthese demands.Key Words: factor, medication error, CPOE, bar coding, medical informatics(J Patient Saf 2006;2:33Y38)
