摘要: Rats are becoming an increasingly popular model system for understanding mechanisms of optic nerve injury in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Although the anatomy rat head (ONH) is different from human, ultrastructural relationships between astrocytes and axons quite similar, making it likely that cellular processes axonal damage these models will be relevant to human glaucoma. All rely on elevating intraocular pressure (IOP), a major risk factor Methods produce increased resistance aqueous humor outflow at anterior chamber angle, specifically hypertonic saline injection pathways laser treatment limbal tissues, appear specific regional pattern may have particular relevance Because fluctuations characteristic such rodent ONH appears high susceptibility elevated IOP, special instrumentation measurement techniques required document exposure eyes understand levels exposed to. With techniques, possible obtain excellent correlation extent damage. Continued use lead better pressure-induced POAG.
