摘要: To determine the extent of unrecognized human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, we examined blood samples drawn from patients presenting to an inner-city emergency department. We found 119 2302 consecutive adult (5.2 percent) be seropositive for HIV. Although 27 presented with known symptomatic HIV 92 remaining 2275 (4.0 had infection. The highest seroprevalence rate (11.4 was among black men 30 34 years age. Blacks, other nonwhites, and under age 45 high rates clinical team established risk-factor status in only 29.0 percent patients. Of 276 identified risk factors, 13.0 were seropositive, whereas 3.1 1616 unknown seropositive.
