摘要: The structure and functioning of salt marsh fish communities in the overall ecology southern African estuaries is poorly understood. This study compares ichthyofauna associated with a creek eelgrass bed an attempt to evaluate relative importance these habitats fishes. Taylor's adjacent Kariega Estuary were sampled twice per season between winter 1992 autumn 1994. average density standing stock fishes found be considerably higher than intertidal creek. Both had similar diversities but dominated by different taxa, most notable which was dominance mugilids their scarcity eelgrass. beds juvenile fish, both as nursery areas for albeit totally ichthyofaunal communities. lower abundances compared are contrast North American studies, refute hypothesis that creeks have densities beds.
