摘要: Coral communities were examined from highly turbid near-shore marginal reefs of Abrolhos (Brazil) to test a paradigm previously developed observations in clear water reefs; specifically, that coral photobiological properties follow conserved linear relationship with optical depth (ζ) via preferential ‘non-photochemical’ over ‘photochemical’ dissipation absorbed light energy. PAM flourometry situ was used examine the photobiology most dominant species throughout platform surfaces and bases Abrolhos’ characteristic ‘chapeiroes’ reef framework; however, none consistently adhered ‘clear paradigm’. measurements further demonstrated conformed two different strategies non-photochemical energy dissipation: transient but relatively rapid for closely related endemic (Mussismilia braziliensis Mussismilia harttii) as opposed more persistent Montastrea cavernosa, Porites astreoides Siderastrea stellata. Further experiments tolerance anomalous stress amongst did not correspond strategy present consistent relative dominance within chapeiroes communities.
