摘要: Background Globally, significant progress has been made in reducing maternal mortality, yet many low-resource contexts it remains unacceptably high. Many of these deaths are due to postpartum haemorrhage and preventable with access essential obstetric care. Where there barriers access, could be prevented if community-level misoprostol was available. The purpose this study explore perceptions stakeholders regarding use the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, a setting high mortality. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted 35 capital, Vientiane one northern province identified as site for possible intervention. sample included international national involved policy-making providing reproductive health services. Findings Most supported pilot program community distribution but levels awareness drug’s preventing level influence over policy direction varied considerably. Some organizations, all powerful influencing policy, ambivalent about misoprostol. Concerns related capacity village workers or lay people safely administer misoprostol, whether its would undermine efforts improve safe delivery services active management third stage labour, ease which prescription drugs can bought counter, technical, logistical, financial constraints.
