摘要: Summary This paper reviews alcohol problems research in England, Wales and Northern Ireland over the last 25 years. Published work British Journal of Addiction, Medical Journal, Lancet, Studies on Alcohol form central sources. It describes how sixties laid foundation for innovative methodology across whole gamut social science investigation. Important issues to emerge during seventies were systematic application epidemiological techniques populations alcoholic patients, development provisional description dependence syndrome seventy questionnaire, exploitation biochemical procedures newly conceived animal models dependence, controlled investigation brain function evaluation relatively established notions treatment. During eighties, liver disease, alcohol-induced hypertension fetal became topics interest; biological genetic burgeoned; economics abuse, precipitants relapse role community analysed. Some insights into funding policy are discerned with indications future directions.
