摘要: The present study of the cathode region in glow discharge is divided into three sections: I. range electrons negative glow. II. Positive ion formation Crookes dark space. III. Energy electron entering length and drop potential across space have been measured simultaneously for various gases over a wide current pressure range. observed lengths correspond exactly to as determined by Lehmann voltages equivalent drop. From this it concluded that energy must entire difference has under conditions values obtained compared with mean free path between ionizing collisions given Tate Smith. number positive ions found per computed making use Aston's equation distribution Tate's efficiency ionization function voltage. so is, general, materially less than one electron; contrasts sharply from 50 100 estimated some investigators. deflection method, nonhomogeneity velocity beam being discernible an elongation fluorescent spot on Willemite screw. No change shape was detected leaving although experimental arrangement such fluctuations voltage more 10 percent could observed. general conclusion be drawn these studies corresponds closely drop, only small fraction expended A possible mechanism briefly outlined.
