摘要: Red algae (Rhodophyceae) are photosynthetic eukaryotes that accumulate starch granules outside of their plastids. The from red (floridean starch) show structural similarities with higher plant but lack amylose. Recent studies have indicated the extra-plastidic synthesis in proceeds via a UDP glucose-selective alpha-glucan synthase, analogy cytosolic pathway glycogen other eukaryotes. On hand, plastidic green cells occurs selectively ADP glucose prokaryotes which plastids evolved. Given emerging consensus monophyletic origin plastids, it would appear capacity for evolved synthesizing machinery host ancestor and its endosymbiont algae, respectively. This implies evolution fundamentally different functional relationships between subcellular compartments regard to carbon metabolism these organisms. It is suggested biochemical molecular elucidation floridean may offer new insights into metabolic strategies
