摘要: The formation of a pterygium is modelled using population balance model corneal and limbal epithelial production. Scattered light incident at the temporal limbus focused nasal with peak intensity > or = 20 times. We hypothesize that this causes focal alteration stem cells (which play role in maintaining barrier between conjunctival epithelia). Normative rabbit data were used. Light-induced proliferation was implemented by amplifying normal cell production along sector circumference. A ten-fold stimulation assumed zero azimuth (3 o'clock position right eye) quadratic attenuation to (normal) circumferential limits. Adjacent points on outer be independent generators migrated centripetal streams into cornea. Normalization attrition rate for net surface accumulation proliferating embedded computational algorithm. localized mass allowed travel predicted distance before final shape computed. result shows wing-shaped curved leading edge (corneal side). It proposed initial biologic event pathogenesis an due chronic ultraviolet exposure. concomitant breakdown subsequent conjunctivalization cornea explain primary pterygium.
