摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses metabolism of steroids in insects. Insects require a dietary or exogenous source sterol for normal growth, metamorphosis, and reproduction, the only known exceptions to this are those species which can be attributed associated symbiotes. The hornworm utilizes major sterols its primary host plant, tobacco—campesterol, sitosterol, stigmasterol—through their dealkylation conversion cholesterol. These conversions proceed through series oxidation-reductive steps, number metabolites intermediates involved characterized. Cholesterol serves both as structural component cells tissues precursor ecdysones molting hormones. While sulfate glucoside conjugates ecdysteroids function, primarily, inactivation excretion insects, these have other equally important roles related biosynthesis, metabolism, transport steroids, regulation hormone titer.
