Factors affecting cattle producers’ willingness to adopt an Escherichia coli O157:H7 vaccine: a probit analysis

摘要: E. coli O157:H7 bacteria – a major cause of foodborne illness occur naturally in the intestine cattle but do not affect health or productivity animal. A vaccine that significantly reduces risk contamination was developed and commercialized Canada internationally, however, adoption by producers remained extremely low. Utilizing data from survey cow-calf western Canada, this paper examines factors affecting producers’ willingness to adopt vaccine. Education, prior awareness vaccine, perception who holds primary responsibility for reduction, producer’s external (versus internal) locus control with respect their ability mitigate risks within production environment are significant determinants adopt.
