摘要: The development of sedative/hypnotic molecules has been empiric rather than rational. approach produced clinically useful drugs but for no drug is the mechanism action completely understood. All available medications have unwanted side effects and none these creates a sleep architecture that identical to naturally occurring sleep. This chapter reviews recent advances in research aiming elucidate neurochemical mechanisms regulating wakefulness. One promise rational design understanding will significantly enhance safety efficacy.
