How far from Chaco to Orayvi? Quantifying inequality among Pueblo households

摘要: Abstract Recent studies of household inequality based on the distribution floor area indicate that wealth varied significantly across time and space in prehispanic upland US Southwest. In this study, we first examine among households from Orayvi ca. 1901 to contextualize patterns then report ancestral Pueblo Basketmaker II-Pueblo III periods central Mesa Verde region, middle San Juan Chaco Canyon, Chuska Valley. At just prior 1906 split, was relatively low, line with values typical for horticultural societies. Most at rather than clans phratries, though were more wealth-differentiated factions, or other groups examined. Degree considerably through time, levels exceeding those calculated primarily during II period.
