The Waves of Containerization

摘要: This paper provides evidence of the cyclic behavior containerization through an analysis long, medium and short waves container ports. The container, like any technical innovation, has a market diffusion potential where phase maturity is eventually reached. Evidence from global port system suggests five successive major long with shift momentum advanced economies to developing economies, but also within developed economies. While wave patterns have been clearly identified system, these are simply illustrative macroeconomic, technological sometimes political shifts economy. They do not explain causes, consequences in distribution traffic growth (or decline). Yet, they provide strong that economic processes inflection points reached, marking end specific or range. Future expectations about thus need be assessed cycle perspective instead rather linear perspectives which generally considered.
