摘要: Urban areas in developing countries have been growing exponentially. In a list of cities with 5 million people or more, Mumbai did not feature 1950, but 1975 it occupied the 15th position which changed to 5th 2000 and is expected be 3rd by 2015. The rapid continued growth its sprawling metropolitan regions has put considerable strain on city’s infrastructure caused environmental degradation. Not only one most crowded world, residential floor space consumption per person lowest world. With population about 14 daily, task providing adequate housing becoming an increasing challenge Mumbai, especially due geographical constraints Island City. Most research subject advocated high density compact city. However, this taken account finite sources water, energy food for city dependent hinterland potential any new development harness own water from renewable resources. High-rise buildings are being promoted as sustainable solution government researchers alike, almost no consideration impact increased density. This paper will review current critically analyse Municipal proposals Mumbai. A method using ecological footprint also discussed. allows analysis based resources within depleting outside that feed power economy.
