Methods:  Data were collected through the website Depression Support Alliance, a mood peer-support network. Results:  sample was 67% female, aged 26 50, 89% Caucasian; 87% current smokers; 92% smokers daily, averaging 19 cigarettes/day (SD = 11). began smoking at mean age 17 years (SD = 6) median 7 years prior diagnosis. Among smokers, 74% expressed desire quit; intent quit unrelated mental health symptoms [χ2(3) = 5.50, p = 0.139]. Only 33% advised by provider, 48% reported treat illness, 96% believed being mentally healthy important for quitting. Ex-smokers (13% sample) had not 2.7 years; ‘cold turkey.’ Most ex-smokers (64%) poor or fair when they smoking. At time survey, however, more described as recovery than [57% versus 40%; χ2(3) = 11.12, p = 0.011]. Conclusions:  are interested Internet may be useful tool recruiting potentially treating face special challenges trying rarely receive treatment from providers.
