摘要: OBJECTIVE: Despite advances in conventional therapy, the prognosis for most glioma patients remains dismal. This has prompted an intensive search effective treatment alternatives. Immunotherapy, one such alternative, long been recognized as a potentially potent cancer but limited by inadequate understanding of immune system. Now, increased insight into immunology is suggesting more rational approaches to immunotherapy. In this article, we explore key aspects modern and discuss their implications therapy. METHODS: A thorough literature review immunotherapy was undertaken inquire basic immunology, central nervous system immunobiology, standard immunotherapy, recent immunotherapeutic treatment. RESULTS: Although gliomas express tumor-associated antigens appear sensitive responses, many factors work together inhibit antiglioma immunity. Not surprisingly, clinical attempts at have met with little success date. However, novel immunostimulatory strategies, immunogene directed cytokine delivery, dendritic cell manipulation, recently yielded dramatic preclinical results models. suggests that glioma-derived immunosuppression can be overcome. CONCLUSION: Modern molecular biology techniques wealth new data about immunobiology. Armed information, investigators proposed means stimulate responses. definitive remain seen, current renaissance shows great promise future.
