Personal storytelling in mental health recovery

摘要: Purpose Creating more positive individual narratives around illness and identity is at the heart of mental health care recovery movement. Some services explicitly use personal storytelling as an intervention. The purpose this paper to look experiences a intervention, college Telling My Story (TMS) course. Design/methodology/approach Eight participants who had attended TMS course offered UK were interviewed. Data analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Findings Five key themes, namely highly emotional experience, feeling safe disclose, renewed sense self, two-way process novel opportunity, emerged. Originality/value The findings suggest that can be meaningful experience important part individual’s journey. They also begin identify elements which might aid recovery, point pragmatic setting conditions for interventions helpful. More time could dedicated individuals telling their story within services, authors insight into guide any future developments.
