摘要: The reproductive biology of the bathyal viviparous fish Cataetyx alleni was described based on 34 specimens (17 females and 17 males) caught during experimental trawl surveys carried out between 800 1700 m depth in southeastern Sardinian Sea (central-western Mediterranean). Males were present at similar size intervals. For first time, internal fertilization demonstrated by finding free spermatozoa scattered ovarian cavity. Based macroscopic histological gonad analysis, mature found summer, autumn winter, suggesting a long period. Inseminated observed only November January, correspondence with higher maturity males. These results suggest probable peak copulation autumn-winter. Moreover, examination that ovaries this member family Bythitidae had ‘group-synchronous’ pattern. No spermatophores males embryos sections analysed.
