摘要: Abstract Amino acids were quantitatively compared in haemolymph from DDT-poisoned and DDT-treated, but symptom-free, American cockroaches. Symptoms induced by holding insects at a lower temperature accordance with the negative coefficient of DDT action. While most amino unchanged, proline was depleted paralysed insects. As duration paralysis increased, progressively decreased to one-fourth normal blood concentration. Relief symptoms resulted restoration Identical effects observed TDE-poisoned cockroaches tobacco hornworms, other insecticides failed produce this reversible depletion. Injection C14- l -proline (U) into followed induction revealed that three times as much oxidation carbon dioxide occurred controls. An increase C14-glutamine central nerve poisoned It postulated shift demand for oxidizable proline. This could result inhibition one or more oxidative enzymes above level alpha-ketoglutaric acid.
