摘要: Electric power transmission lines have become objects of public controversy. Hypotheses linked neurobehavioral effects to the electric and magnetic fields that these produce. The authors conducted a telephone interview survey in November 1987 assess prevalence depressive symptoms headache relation proximity residence an alternating-current line United States. Proximity line, defined as residing on property abutting right-of-way or being able see towers from one's house yard, was positively associated with measure symptoms. association not explained by demographic variables depression attitudes about other environmental issues. estimated odds ratio 2.8 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.6-5.1). estimate did change appreciably when definitions were altered. Nonmigraine headaches had weaker (odds = 1.5, 95% CI 0.76-2.8), self-reported migraine exhibited no 0.99, 0.29-3.4).
