摘要: Abstract 1. Resting metabolic rate was determined in Adelie penguins ( Pygoscelis adeliae ) that had been fed warm and cold ingesta. 2. Post-ingestion found to be related food temperature rather than specific dynamic action. 3. Calorimeteric calculations indicate up 13% of penguin daily energy expenditure may used heating ingested body temperature. 4. Heating costs are predicted higher endotherms living regions species with low assimilation efficiencies, but minimized by appropriate foraging behaviour.
