摘要: Operating room to intensive care unit handoffs are high-risk events for critically ill patients. Studies in selected patient populations show that standardizing operating improves information exchange and decreases errors. To adapt these findings mixed surgical populations, we propose study the implementation of a standardized handoff process two units currently without an existing standard process. The Handoffs Transitions Critical Care (HATRICC) is hybrid effectiveness- trial handoffs. We will use methods conduct needs assessment current process, published processes, implement new academic units. Needs assessment: non-participant observation observe Focus groups, interviews, surveys clinicians elicit participants’ impressions about Adaptation implementation: processes using findings. small group simulation test process’ feasibility. After simulation, incorporate into clinical work all providers Evaluation: Using same employed phase, evaluate Data analysis: primary effectiveness outcome number omissions per episode as compared pre-intervention period. Additional intervention outcomes include length stay mortality. acceptability feasibility, fidelity sustainability. HATRICC examine Findings from this have potential improve healthcare communication ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT02267174 . Date registration October 16, 2014.
