摘要: This thesis explored the experience of adoption and disruption from perspective young women. Adoption refers to irretrievable break down an where person no longer resides with adoptive family. Approximately 20% UK adoptions disrupt, precipitating factors including multiple placements prior adoption, older age at placement „challenging behaviour‟. Little is known about how people disruption, which, in practice means that services have a limited evidence-base draw upon. Given complex needs increased risk psychopathology present adopted populations compared non-adopted populations, establishing well-informed essential. Five adolescent girls, whose had disrupted between six months three years previously, were recruited. Two interviews conducted each using timelining photo-production. Data analysed Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), which clusters themes emerged: regulated restrained, turning points determination be better. Participants described filled confusion it was difficult develop sense identity adjust perceived parental expectations. As this continued behaviours emerged initially considered essential for survival (i.e. verbal physical aggression) but led feeling trapped unresolved cycles conflict. In spite participants articulated awareness midst conflict their could end disruption. Post-disruption interpreted leaving positively; prompted them master independence explore role relationships order thrive. Overall, journey towards insight, empowerment independence. Findings are discussed relation existing research on i) ii) attachment theory, iii) literature. Clinical implications then considered. Future recommendations focus methodology exploring alternative perspectives.
