摘要: There is an acknowledged need to improve the resilience of those at risk flooding in UK. The majority at-risk population do not actively adopt mitigation measures even when they have experienced multiple flood events. If uptake methods increased, physical and financial impacts will continue escalate, as psychological harm, with wider implications for health care costs. Previous studies largely focus upon explicating barriers resilient adaptation; a hitherto under-researched aspect understanding driving factors that can elicit active household sector, other than repeated inundation home. This research builds existing behavioural theories develop conceptual framework specific needs UK management context. was explored via survey members community groups; topics covered included details wide range adopted, together precise nature extent experiences. instrument incorporated two psychometric tests measuring personality (self-efficacy locus control) which been implicated hazard preparedness behaviours, but subjected formal assessment this context previously UK. The results yielded new insight on link between traits different types experience. In contrast previous research, respondents (92%) had taken one or more actions addition joining group. Furthermore, very high proportion sample begun take action lacking direct experience (26%) having only vicarious (or indirect forms of) exposure (36%).
