摘要: This essay compares major social science studies on the experiences of Chicanas(os)/Latinas(os) incarcerated in New York and California state prisons. It reviews researchers' motivations for conducting studies, questions posed, research methods, findings conclusions, their interrelationship. The discussion highlights ethical methodological dilemmas confronted by researchers. A main objective is to help scholars formulate most effective methods carrying out institutional case Chicana(o)/Latina(o) prisoners US that simultaneously yield type information useful all seeking change oppressive conditions inside outside walls. Underlying are: What impact do pre-prison have imprisoned Chicanas(os)? effect does imprisonment pintas(os)' barrios? How prisons reproduce and, therefore, reinforce, differential power relationships existing outside? concludes with a brief review commentary methodologies likely generate desired information.
