摘要: Introduction Impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes are well known complications in beta-Thalassaemic multitransfused patients (beta-Th). Iron overload chronic liver disease, viral infections and/or genetic factors may play an important role the development of intolerance. The present study aimed to investigate whether beta-thalassemic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection be additional risk factor for mellitus. Patients methods included 98 beta-Th patients, 50 females 48 males (mean age 15.9 -/+ 4 years; range: 8-32 years). Forty six (47%) were seropositive HCV by ELISA. Six diagnosed as diabetic before study. In remaining oral test was performed according recommendations National Diabetes Data Group. Prevalence impaired compared HCV-seropositive HCV-seronegative groups. Results prevalence (+) adult higher (-) (15.2% vs. 1.9%, p: 0.02). No difference observed HCV-RNA younger group patients. Conclusions thalassemic is significantly increased infection, but there no between HCV(+) HCV(-) range 8-15 years. It probable that existence hemosiderosis makes effect on metabolism clinically more evident.
