摘要: This review examines arguments and evidence pertaining to the question: why have children in settings where net economic costs of are clearly substantial? Thereview is organized around three themes: biologicalpredispositions, environment (social coercion) rationalchoice. Specifically, we explore argument that evolution hasproduced sets genes predispose persons childbearing bymaking sex parenthood pleasurable. We sociologicalarguments regarding pronatalism/antinatalism societalinstitutions. Finally, discuss stress therationality decisions by appealing biologicalpredispositions non-economic values ofchildren. The authors speculate while a modern socialstructure rationale supportive could beconstructed, such changes not inevitable may be difficultin face competing interests. Moreover, future social andtechnological change alter context childbearingsubstantially. uncertainty complicates policyrecommendations.
