摘要: A brief description is given of a manually operated ionospheric equipment with which single operator can take necessary readings virtual heights and critical frequencies. Data for noon-hour runs from October 1937 to January 1938 April June 1938, half-hour evening-runs in March April, are arranged two tables. Sample average diurnal-variation curves frequencies plotted. It found that the at Wuchang higher than those Washington both E- F2-layers during same months. The E-layer frequency, as case elsewhere, reaches maximum near local noon, whereas F2-layer frequency high value about 14h maintains nearly till 17h, 120° east meridian time. When plotted month by month, increases approach summer, while tends toward minimum July probable maxima April. This would make seasonal characteristics approximate Watheroo rather Washington, but it must be emphasized data insufficient this point definite. Very often height undergoes dip when layer begins appear continues keep its normal long after upper has appeared. In few cases, echoes persist even F- or been penetrated. Magnetic splitting quite evident, especially daylight. observed mean 620 kc, difference between -component x-component penetrating checks very well theoretical 614 kc. reported chain closely packed (scattered reflections) following first echo F-layer on 2 22h 30m midnight, time (or 16h GMT). interpreted multiple-reflection phenomenon, F-layers approaching each other form one an unsteady fashion.
