In vitro assays for examining many aspects host’s immune responses have recently been developed, immunotherapy including zoster globulin (ZIG), hyperimmune plasma, vaccine, transfer factor are now being examined therapeutic efficacy. Previous attempted modes treatment such as antiviral chemotherapeutic agents generally inadequate, yet preliminary results indicate that various may provide clinical armamentarium so long awaited combating this ubiquitous viral agent.
