The long-term structure of production, factor demand and productivity in the Canadian pulp paper industry was studied for period 1956 to 1982. A four input (labor, capital, material energy) nonhomothetic translog cost function used purpose. Least-cost combinations factors were obtained by imbedding an interrelated dynamic adjustment process. These least-cost paths, from which cyclical fluctuations due business turns filtered out, then derive each input. Long-term elasticities substitution also computed. short-term results compared. Important findings study were: (i) production can be represented nomothetic version function, (ii) technological progress is slow despite evidence some economies scale (iii) all are long-run substitutes short-run complementarities between (iv) observed misallocated during as compared allocations, (v) growth labor energy declined seventies early eighties, sixties, but their productivities did not, (vi) though both raw rate decline lower on path, (vii) price increases after 1971 could have been than what actually experienced if change with economic circumstances more rapidly.
