The pediatric critical care experience at Naval Hospital Guam: suggestions for critical care training during residency.

摘要: Objectives: To determine the critical care experience encountered by three recently graduated military pediatricians at an overseas hospital and present one model of maximizing allowable training time during residency. Method: Retrospective reviews all admissions to special nursery intensive unit U.S. Naval Hospital Guam were performed for a 3-year 2-year period, respectively. Age, diagnosis, birth weight (if applicable), level care, invasive procedures in (endotracheal tube, umbilical artery, venous catheter placement), patient outcome, need medical transport recorded. Results: During there 122 (7.1% deliveries). In addition, total 53 on these patients, 29 infants required off-island neonatal additional care. 70 pediatric patients admitted adult unit, representing 10.2% this period. Fourteen referral hospital. Conclusion: Graduating residents may be faced with caring wide range critically ill depending their assignment. Residency programs, recent increased emphasis primary will streamline instruction provide maximal benefit resident while maintaining compliance Review Committee guidelines.
