Obesity and metabolic syndrome among a representative sample of Iranian adolescents.

摘要: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) increases the risk of developing many chronic diseases and originates early in life; its prevalence varies by population. The present study investigated MetS association between obesity a population adolescents northern Iran. A total 450 Iranian high school students (50% boys), aged 15-18 years, were enrolled study. Physical examination biochemical analyses conducted according to standard protocols; was defined modified NHANES III criteria. among subjects 3.3%. Eight percent had body mass index (BMI) >75th percentile, 10.5% BMI >85th percentile. Overall, 42.1% did not have any components MetS. Waist circumferences (WC), Body Mass Index (BMI), serum level triglycerides (TG) density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) significantly higher girls than boys. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) fasting sugar (FBS) boys girls. associations > or = 85th percentile (OR 6.97; 95%CI 2.41-20.16) 75th 6.74; 2.10-21.57) statistically significant. an increased WC also significant 21.64; 6.7-69.81). This confirms apparently adolescents, even those overweight. with generalized abdominal underscores need for primary prevention life.
