摘要: Abstract The temporal development of the latitudinal position a 600 km midlatitude electron density trough at dawn and dusk during period 25–27 May 1967, which encompassed large magnetic storm, was measured by RF capacitive probe on polar orbiting Ariel 3 satellite. substorm-related changes in L coordinate minimum point most rapid change gradient low latitude side are similar. Oscillations phase with substorm activity whereas movement is only apparent onset storm. Detailed model calculations plasmasphere dynamics assuming spatially invariant equatorial convection E-field varies step Kp index produces plasmapause motion parallels observed behaviour, particularly dusk, shows that outer possibly region characterized complex fine structured variations due to past history magnetosphere convection.
