摘要: The freezing of water and the melting ice, phenomena that are extraordinarily familiar from world around, only poorly understood at a molecular level. Like all liquids, can be undercooled without freezing; like most solids, ice cannot superheated to significant extent. dynamics these phase transitions, what they tell about level structure interfaces critical nuclei, is revealed by experiment, computer simulation, theory. In some regards, resembles simpler liquids in kinetics its changes state, but others it quite different. This chapter explores microscopic melting, with particular emphasis on water-ice system.
