摘要: The current status of one the "holy grails" nondestructive testing, measurement mechanical properties such as strength, forming parameters or fracture toughness metal polycrystals, is assessed. Starting from perspective materials science, microstructural features which control various reviewed, followed by a discussion, elastodynamics, degree to these can be sensed ultrasonic measurements. Given this background, possibility achieving grail" discussed. When property controlled single feature, quest fruitful, illustrated several examples. However, more generally, there will not one-to-one relationship between ultrasound and those controlling properties, empirical correlations are restricted particular situations must utilized. It suggested that empiricism most effectively reduced if future effort concentrated on understanding relationships measurements developing new modalities provide complementary information.
