Transparent Handover Using WiFi Network Prediction for Mobile Video Streaming

摘要: Loosely controlled Wi-Fi networks, such as deployed at festivals and events, typically do not provide a full coverage of the terrain. As result, user experience mobile watching video stream is rather erratic, because frequent disconnections re-connections. However, these periods are generally short (10 - 50 seconds for area around 70%). To ensure continuous one needs to graciously handle “disconnection gaps” until client connects subsequent access point. In this paper we will introduce disconnection prediction (DP) mechanism pre-fetcher (PF) successfully initiate transparent handover ensuring streaming.
