An examination relationships context important for three reasons. First, pre-parties are associated with heavy drinking, traditionally masculinity. Second, because pre-drinking takes place private sphere home, it therefore ‘controlled’ terms who can participate hence what precisely composition. Third, whilst being located nevertheless informed by (hyper) gendered environments public spaces Night-Time Economy (NTE), most dominantly mainstream clubs bars. We suggest that such characteristics allow emergence specific relationships, activities affectivities, thereby demarcating as particular space. Methods draw narrative data from 140 in-depth face-to-face interviews young Danish users 18–25 years age. were part large-scale project aspects use intoxication. Theoretically, we combination ‘doing gender’ paradigm ( West & Zimmerman, 1987 ) affect theoretical notions (un)comfortability Ahmed, 2014 ). propose these perspectives mark out particularly Results While our analysis supports observation studies, pre-partying not merely motivated possibility becoming intoxicated cheap un-surveilled way before going out, especially argue fueled desire 'comfortability', seems almost impossible disassemble gendering also entails. Our contributes ongoing academic discussion around ‘intoxicated femininity’ masculinity’ suggesting need take affective implications people’s (gendered) into account thorough gender.
