摘要: The natural gas sweetening chemicals, sulfolane and diisopropanolamine (DIPA), are highly water soluble have leached into the ground from landfills spills at some sour processing plant sites in western Canada. This paper reports on results of batch equilibration studies designed to evaluate DIPA sorption parameters, which relevance modeling fate behavior these compounds saturated zone. sorbents included aquifer materials three sites, reference montmorillonite kaolinite, six soils various clay organic matter contents. isotherms were curvilinear, slope decreasing with increasing concentration. adsorption by decreased as solution concentration K2SO4 increased, consistent a cation-exchange reaction. A decrease pH 8.3 6.8 produced slight increase montmorillonite. X-ray analysis DIPA-saturated showed that enters interlayer space mineral. linear was very low (Kd<1 l/kg), whereas uptake somewhat higher (Kd<4 l/kg). Both sorbed more minerals than cation exchange capacity reasonable predictor contents C (<1 g/100 g). desorption relative adsorption, hysteresis found for DIPA. Based estimates retardation, predicted move farther under conditions sites.
