摘要: Reduced blood cholesterol levels were reported in patients with a variety of malignant peripheral tumors. This fact is likely related to increased demand by proliferating tumor cells. The question arises whether this 'tumor-associated hypocholesterolemia' occurs also brain tumors, and--if it does not--whether its absence can be the location We have compared fasting serum total among three groups patients: 52 gliomas, 56 symptomatic metastatic and 50 harboring tumors but showing no clinical signs metastases. Patients last group, despite being--on an average--more age-advanced, had lower than either or No difference was found between two latter groups, majority these borderline elevated levels. apparent may tumors' ability synthesize de novo their reduced dependence on supply, existence tumor-blood barrier, effect medications used counteract edema seizures, combination factors.
