摘要: Abstract Experience of developing saline aquifers as CO2 storage sites is limited. Drawing on the experience hydrocarbon exploration, there are geological risks that may be encountered during search for sites, such finding a reservoir insufficient thickness, low porosity or lacking an adequate seal. We use drilling records 382 boreholes UK Continental Shelf to analyse exploring new reservoir, assumption probability occurrence similar. The most significant borehole absence target (19 ± 3% cases), quality (16 ± 5%) and lack trap (16 ± 3%). Overall, 49 ± 8% subsurface structures, identified from seismic data, can potentially store CO2. For have already been penetrated by wells within potential site, eliminated at least reduced; compartmentalization major remaining risk. This study demonstrates method quantitatively apply data exploration reservoirs in analogous settings.
